Wherever you go, you will find a wonderful place to learn about Andean culture at three different times, three places. Travel to the south east of Cusco and see very interesting things throughout history with visits to Pikillaqta, Tipón and Andahuaylillas, pre-Inca, Inca and colonial.
Also, there are the best examples of colonial influence such as the Andahuaylillas chapel, better known as the “Sistine Chapel of America”. In addition, it is the best route to enjoy Peruvian food: Culture, Landscape and Gastronomy
Early in the morning, at 8:30 a.m., the trip begins with a half-hour drive to the archaeological site of Tipón. There you can see a system of monumental terraces associated with a complex hydraulic system that demonstrates the Incas’ mastery of the liquid element, as well as the ceremonial use of the place in relation to water.
The second destination is a large walled city, with straight streets, two- and three-story buildings, a military zone and a ceremonial area associated with large plazas. The city of Pikillaqta is very old and was built by the people of the Wari culture two or three millennia ago, influencing the entire Lucre Wetland basin, a paradise for bird watchers.
The next point of interest is the Andahuaylillas chapel, a colonial-style temple in the Andean Baroque style that surprises with the profusion of syncretic paintings inside that cover the walls and coffered ceilings, as well as the paintings and the profusion of gold leaf on its altars and reredos, attributes that have earned it the nickname of “The Sistine Chapel of America.”
The tour concludes upon returning to Cusco at approximately 3:00 p.m.
