The Sacred Valley of the Incas, a place full of archaeology, history and living culture awaits us with a horizon of beautiful landscapes, archaeological sites and towns such as Pisac, Ollantaytambo and Chinchero. During the trip we will understand the reason for the sacred name of the valley.
Leaving the city of Cusco at 8:30 a.m., we travel along a road to the east and after a 30 km journey we arrive at Pisac, a huge Inca archaeological complex located on a mountain that is made up of several recognizable complexes and contains sacred places such as Intihuatana, associated with important astronomical observations for the Andean agricultural calendar, other residential areas and also an inaccessible necropolis in the nearby cliffs.
After visiting the complex, we return to the colonial town of Pisac, already famous for its craft market where you can buy all kinds of pottery, textile, etc. souvenirs, which have been reinterpreted by the complex Andean iconography.
Leaving this town, the trip takes us to the city of Urubamba, where a lunch awaits with a buffet where you can choose from the varied and tasty Peruvian cuisine.
The next destination is the Inca town of Ollantaytambo, a site of religious, agricultural and military use where the impressive construction of the solar temple stands out, sitting on the top of a hill, a site that shows the almost legendary capacity of Inca engineering in a building of cyclopean blocks of pink diorite and their unions without any mortar, all associated with embankments and enclosures where the work of the stone is shown perfect and does nothing but increase the mystery regarding the construction methods with which they were made.
From the previous point the return to the city of Cusco begins, but not before making a last stop in the Inca-colonial town of Chinchero, also called “rainbow town” due to the continuous appearance of this atmospheric phenomenon. In the place you can see, as in many other ancient places, the superposition of the colonial church on the “huaca” or Inca shrine. Chinchero has a complex structure of monumental terraces and a craft market that is very colorful and important. The return to the city from this last place takes approximately thirty minutes at nightfall.
